Convert a file to DVG
To convert other file formats to the "Legacy 2D CAD Drawing" file type, you need software like GraphicWorks or a similar tool.
About DVG files
The .DVG file extension is primarily associated with GraphicWorks, a legacy 2D CAD and vector graphics software developed by Data Becker. It stores 2D technical drawings, vector shapes, and page layouts used for drafting and graphic design. Because Data Becker ceased operations in 2014, GraphicWorks is now dead software. This makes the .DVG format highly problematic. It is a closed, proprietary format that modern CAD applications like AutoCAD or vector editors like Adobe Illustrator do not natively support. Users often face a complete inability to open these legacy files on modern operating systems like Windows 10 or 11. To recover your data, converting .DVG to standard formats like DXF (for CAD), SVG (for vector graphics), or PDF (for viewing) is essential. However, because the format is undocumented, standard online converters often fail. Often, only the original GraphicWorks software installed on an older operating system can properly read or export the data. Even if full conversion fails, our analysis can inspect the file to extract embedded text, raw data, or underlying structures.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DVG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DVG file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use GraphicWorks or similar software from the "2D CAD and Vector Graphics" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to DVG, try GraphicWorks or another comparable tool in the "2D CAD and Vector Graphics" category.
The DVG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DVG converter.
