The .DUB file extension primarily represents two entirely different file types: a video project file created by the discontinued mobile application Dubsmash, or a spell checker dictionary identifier used by Microsoft Office.
For former Dubsmash users, the .DUB format presents a major challenge because the app has been shut down. You cannot open or play this file in a standard media player. However, the file is not a proprietary video codec; it is simply a renamed ZIP archive containing raw PNG images and audio data. To make this media usable, users must extract the internal assets and reconstruct them into a standard MP4 video.
Alternatively, Microsoft uses .DUB files as internal spelling dictionary identifiers for its Proofing Tools. These are closed, proprietary data files designed strictly for the software's internal use. If you attempt to open them in a standard text editor, you will likely see garbled code.
