The .DUB file extension is most famously associated with Dubsmash, the once-viral video-sharing platform acquired by Reddit and shut down in 2022. These files function as project archives (packages) created on mobile devices. Since the Dubsmash app is no longer active or downloadable, users holding these files are often left with "orphaned" data they cannot open. Internally, these are typically ZIP containers that hold the raw video (MP4), a thumbnail image (PNG), and metadata required by the app. The second common use is as a Spell Checker Dictionary file found in Microsoft Office installations (specifically Proofing Tools).
