About DSU files
The .dsu extension serves multiple distinct functions, creating confusion for users who discover these files without context. The most statistically common variant is a Distributed Social Profile file, typically associated with the ICS 32 Distributed Social Utility project. Internally, these are standard JSON structures containing user bio data and posts. The main drawback here is the obscurity of the extension; operating systems do not recognize it as text, preventing users from opening it in editors like VS Code or Notepad++. For these, the best conversion path is simply renaming to JSON or converting to TXT for universal access.
However, in scientific and industrial settings, a .dsu file is likely a proprietary Thermal Analysis Data file generated by Netzsch instruments (using Proteus software) or a Data Storage Unit file from Aanderaa sensors. These are complex binary files that lock critical experimental data behind expensive, niche licensing. Users cannot simply open these in Excel. The ideal workflow for these archives involves converting the raw sensor streams into CSV or XLSX for analysis in standard spreadsheet software, or PDF for long-term archiving of the generated thermal graphs.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DSU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DSU file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Netzsch Proteus or similar software from the "Structured Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to DSU, try Netzsch Proteus or another comparable tool in the "Structured Data Storage" category.
The DSU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DSU converter.
