The .DSNX file format stores a RoadEng Location Design Document. This file is primarily used by civil engineers and planners working with RoadEng, a rural infrastructure design software developed by Softree Technical Systems. It contains detailed 3D geometric designs, including horizontal and vertical road alignments, terrain surfaces, cross-sections, and mass haul diagrams for forestry, mining, and rural road construction projects.
The main disadvantage of the .DSNX format is its strictly proprietary nature. It is a closed file type that requires an expensive software license to read. It cannot be natively opened by standard CAD or GIS platforms like AutoCAD or ArcGIS. Users frequently need to convert these files to share designs with contractors or government agencies who do not use RoadEng.
