Convert a file to DONE
To convert other file formats to the "Marker File" file type, you need software like WinZip or a similar tool.
About DONE files
The .DONE file is a completed process marker file. Automated systems, server pipelines, and file archiving software like WinZip use these files to signal that a specific task, such as a secure FTP transfer or a large batch download, has finished successfully. Typically, another script monitors a directory for the appearance of a .DONE file to trigger the next step in a workflow.
Users frequently attempt to convert this file because they find it in their download folder and mistake it for the actual media or document they were trying to retrieve. The major disadvantage of the .DONE format is that it usually contains no usable data. In most cases, it is a 0-byte file. If it does contain information, it is limited to a brief timestamp or basic log entry. It is proprietary to the specific automated pipeline that generated it and holds no standalone value.
If the file contains text logs, the best conversion targets are plain text formats like TXT or LOG. Converting it will simply extract the raw text, but you will lose any automated trigger function it provided to the host system. Standard online converters fail to process this format because they expect a standardized media or document structure, whereas .DONE files are purely arbitrary system flags.
Because this format is highly specific, often only the original script or software can properly read or export the intended data. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DONE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DONE file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use WinZip or similar software from the "Process Completion Marker" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to DONE, try WinZip or another comparable tool in the "Process Completion Marker" category.
The DONE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DONE converter.
