Convert a file to DONE

To convert other file formats to the "Signal Flag" file type, you need software like Notepad++ or a similar tool.

About DONE files

A .DONE file serves as a digital signal flag, indicating that a specific computing process - such as a file transfer, compilation, or data import - has successfully finished. Unlike standard documents, these are typically generated by automated scripts, FTP clients, or installation environments like Cygwin rather than human authors. The biggest obstacle for users is that .DONE files are often "orphaned" artifacts; they persist on the disk after their job is complete, cluttering directories and causing confusion about whether they contain valuable data. In many cases, the file is 0 bytes (empty), serving purely as a boolean "true" flag for a watching software daemon. However, some implementations use the format to store textual exit logs, timestamps, or error summaries. Because the file lacks a standardized MIME type, double-clicking it usually results in an "Unknown File Type" error. To inspect the contents without risking system instability, the most pragmatic approach is converting the file to TXT for universal readability or PDF for archival purposes. If the file is 0KB, it can typically be safely deleted, but converting it first confirms whether hidden log data exists.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DONE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SAGE, PYW and OWL files.

The DONE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DONE converter.
