About DMSS files

The .DMSS file format is a proprietary project file created by Sonic Solutions for their VideoWave software. It is strictly designed to store slideshow metadata, such as file paths to original images, transition timings, and background audio settings. Because it is a closed, proprietary format, .DMSS comes with severe limitations. It requires specific legacy software, like Roxio Creator, to open. Standard web browsers and media players cannot read it. Most importantly, it does not contain the actual image or video data, making it highly dependent on external files remaining in their original folder locations. Users typically want to convert .DMSS to standard video formats like MP4 or AVI for sharing. However, standard online video converters fail to process this format because they look for embedded video streams, which do not exist in project files.
