About DLV files

The .DLV file extension is primarily used for Industrial Data Log files generated by process control software from Danfoss and Eurotherm. These files capture telemetry, temperature, and process metrics over time using a Microsoft Compound file structure. Alternatively, .DLV represents a Software Product License file (usually XML-based) used by Quest Software (formerly Dell) for activating enterprise software tools, or a legacy CATIA V4 Export file created by Dassault Systèmes.

The main disadvantage of .DLV log files is their heavily proprietary nature. Danfoss and Eurotherm logs require specialized, often expensive, process analysis software to open and read. License files are tied specifically to the Quest License Manager and are not meant for manual editing; simply saving the file in a standard text editor can alter the XML encoding and invalidate the software license entirely.

Users typically need to convert .DLV log data to CSV or XLSX formats to analyze the captured metrics in Microsoft Excel or other standard data science tools. License files are best viewed as plain text (TXT or XML) if troubleshooting is required.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because standard web tools cannot parse the specific binary Microsoft Compound structure used by industrial loggers, nor can they decode proprietary CATIA CAD data. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format. Our tool will inspect the file, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like standard XML or text, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DLV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NID, ATP and PTS files.

The DLV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DLV converter.
