About DLV files

The .DLV file extension represents two completely different file types, creating frequent confusion for users.

Most commonly (31%), a .DLV file is an Industrial Data Log generated by process control software from Eurotherm or Danfoss. These files act as digital chart recorders, storing time-series data like temperature, pressure, and voltage in a structured Microsoft Compound File format. The real problem is that while this data is critical for compliance and quality control, the .DLV format is proprietary and binary. You cannot simply double-click to open it in Microsoft Excel. To analyze the data, you must typically use the original viewing software (such as Eurotherm Review or Danfoss Log Viewer) to export the timeline to CSV or XLSX formats.

Alternatively (17%), a .DLV file is a Software License File used by Quest Software (formerly Dell) for enterprise products like NetVault Backup or Toad for Oracle. In this context, the file contains XML-structured product keys and entitlement data. Users often try to "open" these files to read them, but they are designed to be placed in a specific installation directory (e.g., NVHOME\tmp) to activate software. While you can view the contents by opening them in a text editor like Notepad++, modifying the text will break the digital signature and invalidate the license.

A rare third use (0.9%) is as a legacy CATIA V4 Export File, used for exchanging 3D CAD geometry.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DLV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NID, ATP and PTS files.
