The .DIS file extension primarily represents an Oracle Discoverer Workbook, a proprietary format generated by the now-obsolete Oracle Discoverer business intelligence tool. These files act as containers for SQL queries, worksheets, and tabular reports used to analyze enterprise database data.

The Problem: Oracle officially discontinued Discoverer support (End of Life in 2017), meaning .DIS files are often "orphaned data." Opening them requires maintaining legacy middleware or aging desktop client software, which poses significant security and compatibility risks. They are not natively supported by modern tools like Microsoft Excel or web browsers.
