The .DGM extension is a classic 'container of confusion' because it is shared by over a dozen completely unrelated software packages. Most frequently (approx. 34%), it represents a model diagram generated by Mplus, a statistical modeling program used to visualize latent variables and path analysis. However, your file might also be a Digital Terrain Model from civil engineering tools like 12d Model or DATAflor, a power monitoring diagram from Schneider Electric PME, or even a mind map export from MindMeister.
The primary issue with .DGM files is their proprietary fragmentation; an Mplus file is binary-incompatible with a 12d Model file, and neither can be opened by standard image viewers. This is a common issue when trying to share statistical findings or engineering surveys with clients who do not license this niche, expensive software.
