Convert DGM to another file type
To convert DGM diagrams and models to another format, you need Mplus or other Data software.
Convert a file to DGM
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Diagram Data" file type, you need software like Mplus or a similar tool.
About DGM files
A .DGM file is most frequently a statistical model diagram created by Mplus. However, the extension is heavily fragmented and is also widely used for power monitoring system diagrams by Schneider Electric, mind maps by MindMeister, and Digital Terrain or Digital Ground Models in CAD software like 12d Model and Nemetschek Allplan. Because it acts as a generic container for 'diagrams' or 'models', the internal structure varies wildly from plain XML and JSON to older Microsoft Compound or closed binary formats.
Users usually need to convert .DGM files because they lack the expensive, specialized software required to open them natively. A major disadvantage of this format is its severe proprietary lock-in. You cannot natively view an Mplus diagram or a Schneider Electric schematic in a standard web browser. Often, these files are completely unreadable outside their parent application, forcing teams to purchase costly software licenses just to review a schematic, CAD terrain, or statistical model.
The best conversion targets depend entirely on the file's origin. For web sharing, converting to PDF, SVG, or PNG is ideal, though you will lose the interactive, editable layers. If the file contains 3D terrain data, exporting to standard DWG or DXF is preferred.
This extreme fragmentation makes .DGM files exceptionally difficult to open or convert with standard tools. An online image converter will fail because it does not know if the file contains XML text, a statistical model, or a 3D CAD mesh. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects an underlying XML or JSON structure, viewing the embedded data or partial conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DGM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DGM file to SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use Mplus or similar software from the "Diagram and Model Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to DGM, try Mplus or another comparable tool in the "Diagram and Model Storage" category.
The DGM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DGM converter.
