About DDRW files

The .DDRW file is a legacy vector graphic format created by ClarisDraw, an application designed for classic Mac OS in the 1990s. These files store object-oriented graphics, text blocks, and bitmap elements used for creating diagrams, charts, and digital illustrations.

Historically, the format was exclusively opened and edited using ClarisDraw, developed by Claris, a former software subsidiary of Apple. To learn more about the software's history, see ClarisDraw.

Modern users face severe challenges with .DDRW files. Because ClarisDraw was discontinued in 1998, the format is entirely obsolete. It is a proprietary, closed-source binary format that cannot be natively opened by modern Windows or macOS systems. Attempting to access these files often requires running classic Mac OS emulators or relying on specialized legacy import filters. Without conversion, the data locked inside is effectively inaccessible.

The best conversion targets for a .DDRW file are SVG for preserving scalable vector paths, or PDF and PNG for static viewing. When converting, be aware that classic Mac OS fonts and complex gradients may not translate perfectly to modern standards, resulting in slight formatting changes.

This format is notoriously difficult to open because it relies on undocumented binary structures and legacy resource forks. Standard online converters usually fail because they lack the highly specific parsing libraries needed to decode vintage Apple file formats. Even if full vector extraction is limited by the proprietary architecture, our system can inspect the file and often extract embedded text or underlying data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DDRW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SLDDRW files.

The DDRW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDRW converter.
