About DBU files
The .dbu file format serves multiple entirely different purposes depending on the software that created it. Its most common uses include game data for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, dental imaging database backups by Vatech, and log files generated by the HP Smart application. Scientific software like Agilent MassHunter also uses it for database utility tasks. Because .dbu is not a single standardized format, it lacks native support in operating systems and web browsers. Most .dbu files are proprietary binaries tightly coupled to their original software. For example, a Vatech dental backup requires the original clinical software to restore patient records, while a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game file requires specific modding tools to edit character definitions. Direct conversion to standard database formats like CSV or SQL is rarely possible natively. However, some variants use standard underlying structures. The HP Smart log files are simply encoded as JSON, and Vatech backups are often standard ZIP archives containing the actual data. This makes the format difficult to open or convert blindly. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like ZIP or JSON, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DBU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted SCOP, MPH, LCP, DBM and DB files.

The DBU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DBU converter.
