About CWT files
The .CWT file extension is primarily associated with Cakewalk SONAR, where it functions as a track or project template. These files store predefined audio routing, plugin chains, and mixer configurations to speed up workflow in digital audio workstations (DAWs). Additionally, .CWT can represent a ChordWizard Template used by ChordWizard Software or an obsolete ClarisWorks Texture File. Because these are highly specialized template files, they are virtually useless without their parent software. A Cakewalk SONAR template cannot be natively imported into Ableton Live or FL Studio. It requires the original Cakewalk engine, which is now maintained by BandLab. This proprietary lock-in forces users to either maintain legacy software or manually rebuild their audio routing. If your goal is to migrate a DAW project, you cannot directly convert a .CWT template into a standard audio format like WAV or MP3 because it contains no actual audio data, only settings. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific DAW engines required to parse the proprietary binary project data.
