About COOKIES files
A .cookies file is primarily an SQLite database used by web browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to store session data, user preferences, and tracking information. Some versions, like those from Apple Safari, use a proprietary binary format instead. Because these files contain sensitive, encrypted authentication tokens and local state data, they are not meant to be opened directly by users. The major disadvantage of the .cookies format is its proprietary or raw database structure, which makes it impossible to read without specific database viewers or browser extensions. This format limits your ability to audit what websites are tracking you, and files can become bloated over time. Users often need to convert .cookies to CSV, TXT, or JSON to analyze session data, migrate accounts, or perform security audits. Target formats like CSV make data readable, but you will lose the encrypted session tokens which cannot be decrypted outside the original browser. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they are structured SQLite databases or specialized binary blobs containing encrypted fields tied to the host operating system. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying SQLite database format, viewing or extracting the unencrypted text data may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your COOKIES file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The COOKIES Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our COOKIES converter.
