About CMBX files

A .CMBX file functions as a Chromeleon Method Bundle, which is a specialized data backup format used by Thermo Scientific Chromeleon, a leading Chromatography Data System (CDS). These files store essential laboratory data, including instrument methods, processing parameters, and analysis sequences.

The main disadvantage of the .CMBX format is its heavily proprietary nature. It requires an expensive, specialized software license to open and natively interpret the chromatography data. Users outside of the original laboratory environment face strict limitations, as standard web browsers and document editors cannot read these files. Because this format is locked into a closed ecosystem, standard online converters completely fail to process it into a generic PDF or image.

However, a practical workaround exists. The .CMBX file is structurally built as a standard ZIP archive. This means the best target format is an extracted folder containing the raw internal files, which often include readable XML or plain text configuration data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CMBX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CMBL, 340, 320 and MXL files.
