About CL4 files

The .CL4 extension is primarily associated with legacy CD burning projects created by Easy CD Creator 4, a once-standard utility developed by Adaptec and later Roxio (now part of Alludo). These files function as instruction sets - they point to music tracks or data files on your hard drive and define the layout for burning a CD.

The Critical Limitation: A major point of friction is that .CL4 files typically do not contain the actual audio or data. They are small reference files (often under 1MB). If you transfer a .CL4 file to a new computer without the original source files (MP3s, WAVs, docs), the project is essentially broken and cannot be "converted" to an ISO or playable CD. Furthermore, Easy CD Creator 4 is effectively obsolete on modern operating systems like Windows 10 or 11, making these files difficult to open without a virtual machine running Windows 98/XP.

Secondary Format: A smaller subset of .CL4 files are actually SQLite databases generated by EZ CD Audio Converter (formerly Easy CD-DA Extractor). These store session metadata or ripping logs. Unlike the proprietary Roxio format, these are standard databases.
