About CKT files
CKT files are predominantly electronic schematics or simulation designs created by legacy software such as older versions of CircuitMaker or the educational tool Crocodile Clips (now Yenka). A significant problem for users is the proprietary nature of these formats; a .CKT file created in CircuitMaker 2000 is binary-incompatible with modern Altium products, and Crocodile Clips files often fail to open in newer simulators due to discontinued physics engines. Furthermore, engineers using Keysight equipment may encounter .CKT files acting as VNA calibration kits, which are purely data-driven and unreadable as images. Because these files are often locked behind defunct 16-bit software or expensive enterprise licenses, the most practical workflow is converting them to PDF or TIFF for documentation and printing. For active engineering recovery, migrating data to standard exchange formats like DXF or Gerber is ideal but frequently results in lost simulation parameters.
