About CHL files
The .CHL file extension primarily functions as a Channel List used by satellite receivers, TV tuner software, and Personal Video Recorder (PVR) applications. The most common devices that generate these files are GTMedia and Viark satellite receivers. Users export these files to a USB drive to back up their channel configurations, favorite lists, and satellite transponder data. Other software, like ArcSoft TotalMedia and Leadtek WinFast PVR2, also use .CHL files to store locally scanned TV channels. In rare cases, the .CHL extension represents a game challenge script for the 2005 PC game Black & White 2 or an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) file for an Indian Customs Bill of Entry.
The main disadvantage of .CHL files is their highly fragmented and proprietary nature. A .CHL file exported from a GTMedia receiver is completely incompatible with one generated by ArcSoft TotalMedia. Users often want to open these files on a PC to reorder their channels using a keyboard and mouse rather than a clunky TV remote. However, official editing tools are frequently unsupported, poorly translated, or hard to find. Because the format lacks a universal standard, standard online converters fail to process them, leaving users frustrated.
Converting a .CHL file to a standard format like JSON, XML, or CSV is the best way to make the data readable and editable. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard tools usually throw errors. Often, only the original hardware or software can properly read or export the data. Many modern satellite receivers structure their .CHL files as internal JSON data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CHL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted SDX, UDID, TOC, ASO and MOC files.

The CHL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CHL converter.
