About CHEF files

A .CHEF file contains source code written in Chef, an esoteric programming language created by David Morgan-Mar. The language is unique because its syntax is designed to perfectly mimic traditional cooking recipes. Variables are defined as 'ingredients,' data structures operate as 'mixing bowls,' and the final output is the 'served' dish.

While you can open the file with any standard text editor like Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code, running the actual code requires a dedicated Chef interpreter.

The main disadvantage of the .CHEF format is its highly obscure file extension. If you send this file to a non-programmer, their computer will not know how to open it because neither Windows nor macOS assigns a default application to it. Furthermore, users who stumble upon a .CHEF file might mistakenly believe it is a genuine digital recipe for a cooking app, only to be confronted with a system error when double-clicking it.

To make the code universally readable and shareable, the best conversion targets are standard text formats like TXT, MD (Markdown), or PDF. Converting it ensures the clever formatting of the recipe remains intact while removing the barrier of an unknown file extension. No data is lost in this conversion, as the original file is entirely plain text.

Because this is a niche developer format, standard online converters often fail to process it properly or recognize its MIME type. Our analysis detects the supported underlying text formatting, making viewing and conversion effortless.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CHEF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted W, B2 and QL files.
