About CHAIT files
The .CHAIT file extension represents a Chaimera Artwork Template, originally developed by padonko. It was heavily used to save proprietary page layout designs, combining vector shapes, text blocks, and embedded raster images within a single template framework.
These templates were natively created and opened using Chaimera, a now-defunct cloud-based design and desktop publishing toolkit. Although the platform is obsolete, some underlying structural elements can occasionally be processed using web canvas libraries like Fabric JS or imported into Adobe InDesign through highly specialized legacy workflows.
Users desperately need to convert these files because the original Chaimera service is permanently offline. This creates a massive disadvantage: the format is practically a "digital ghost." Without the native cloud environment, opening a .CHAIT file on a modern Windows or macOS computer is nearly impossible. They are not supported by web browsers out-of-the-box and require annoying, technical workarounds just to access historical artwork.
The best target formats are PDF for preserving the overall page layout, or standard raster formats like PNG and JPG for pure image extraction. Converting to these standardized formats ensures universal accessibility, though interactive or dynamically layered elements from the original web template will be permanently flattened.
This file format is incredibly difficult to convert because it relies on a proprietary blend of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript structures packaged specifically for a defunct server environment. Standard online converters fail completely because they expect standardized binary or XML layout definitions. Even if full visual rendering fails, our analysis tool can often detect and extract embedded raw text or base64 images trapped inside the obsolete template.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CHAIT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CHAIT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CHAIT converter.
