About CGRP files

The .CGRP file is a Pro Tools Clip Group File used by Avid Pro Tools. It acts as a container that groups multiple audio, MIDI, or video clips together on a timeline. This allows sound engineers to easily move, copy, or export complex, multi-track arrangements to other Pro Tools sessions. The primary software required to natively open and utilize these files is Avid Pro Tools. The biggest disadvantage of the .CGRP format is that it is proprietary, closed, and strictly tied to the Avid ecosystem. More importantly, .CGRP files do not contain actual audio data. They only contain metadata referencing external audio files (like WAV or AIFF). Users without an expensive Pro Tools subscription cannot open these files, and standard online audio converters fail to process them because the actual sound media is entirely missing from the file payload. Direct conversion to MP3 or WAV is impossible without the source audio files and the original Pro Tools software. However, converting the embedded metadata to TXT, XML, or CSV to read the file references is sometimes possible. This file format is extremely difficult to open or convert because only the original software can properly read the proprietary data structure. If our analysis detects supported underlying text, viewing the clip names and media references may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CGRP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
