About CELX files
The .CELX file is a Lua-based script used exclusively by the 3D astronomy software Celestia. It automates space tours, controls camera movements, prints text on the screen, and manages 3D objects in the simulated universe. Users run these files within Celestia, but because they contain plain text code, they can also be opened and edited using code editors like Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code.
The primary disadvantage of the .CELX format is its absolute dependency on the Celestia engine. It is not a standalone media file and has no native web browser support. The most common frustration for users is expecting a .CELX file to be a video of a space tour, only to discover it is a small text script. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they attempt to extract media that does not exist.
You cannot directly convert a .CELX script into a video format like MP4 or AVI. To achieve that, you must play the script inside Celestia and record the output with screen capture software. However, you can convert the file to standard text formats like TXT or LUA for easier code sharing.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CELX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CELX file to EXE, MSI, APP, DMG, DEB, RPM, PKG, RUN, SH, BAT, CMD or COM, you can use Celestia or similar software from the "Space Tour Automation Script" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert JAR, APP, SCR, IPA, COM, AAB, PS1, DMG, VBS, EXE, XAPK or MSI files to CELX, try Celestia or another comparable tool in the "Space Tour Automation Script" category.
The CELX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CELX converter.
