About CDP2 files
.cdp2 files are proprietary game asset archives used primarily by N3V Games for the Trainz Simulator franchise. They bundle custom 3D models, textures, audio clips, and configuration scripts into a single package, making it easier for players to share and install custom routes and locomotives.
Typically, these files are managed exclusively through the Trainz Content Manager. The primary disadvantage of the .cdp2 format is its heavily closed, proprietary nature. Standard archive utilities like 7-Zip or WinRAR cannot open or extract these files. This creates a frustrating experience for users who simply want to extract a specific PNG texture or a WAV sound effect without launching the heavy game client.
Because .cdp2 utilizes custom file structures and compression algorithms specific to the game engine, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original Trainz software can properly read or export the contained data. We can identify the file format, inspect the internal headers, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects supported underlying or embedded formats, viewing or partial extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CDP2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
