About CCS files

The .ccs file extension is primarily used for two very different purposes: Construction project estimating files created by RIB CCS Candy, and Citation style definition files utilized by Citavi reference management software. Candy files store complex cost estimates, project bills of quantities, and construction management data. Citavi files store formatting rules for academic bibliographies and citations. Other minor uses include HVAC system symbols in ClimaCAD and video deposition clip scripts in CaseViewNet.

Converting a .ccs file is often necessary because the original software is expensive, highly specialized, and requires an active subscription. The Candy estimating file is a proprietary, closed binary format. This vendor lock-in makes it impossible to share cost estimates with clients or contractors who do not own the software. If you share a raw .ccs file, the recipient simply cannot open it. Citavi citation styles are less restrictive because they use underlying XML formatting, but they still only function correctly inside the Citavi application.

To share this data, you must convert the file. For construction files, the best target formats are PDF for final reports or XLSX for raw spreadsheet data. Note that converting to Excel will lose the interactive formulas and linked database connections. For citation styles, converting to standard XML or TXT allows you to view the raw code, though you will lose the automatic formatting macros.

Because .ccs files are often proprietary databases or compiled scripts, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the GZIP compression in ClimaCAD files or the XML structure in Citavi files - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CCS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSS, TXT, CTV and CPS files.

The CCS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CCS converter.
