A .CBDS file is a specialized comic book archive format created explicitly for the Nintendo DS console using the homebrew application ComicBookDS. Internally, the file is a standard ZIP container that holds pre-rendered, pre-sized image files (usually JPG or PNG) and XML configuration data to track page order and reading layout.
The format presents severe disadvantages for modern users. Because .CBDS files were engineered for obsolete hardware, the images inside are permanently downscaled and often split to fit the Nintendo DS's dual screens, each measuring a tiny 256x192 pixels. High-resolution art is lost. Furthermore, modern comic reader applications like CDisplayEx or YACReader do not recognize the .CBDS extension natively. You cannot read these files directly on iOS, Android, or standard PC desktop apps without workarounds.
To make these files readable today, you must convert them to standard formats like CBZ (Comic Book Zip), PDF, or extract the individual JPG pages.
