Extract text from WWE 2K and Cakewalk files (CAK)

A .CAK file is primarily a proprietary game data archive used by the WWE 2K video game series (developed by Visual Concepts) to bundle critical game assets. These massive containers - often exceeding several gigabytes - pack thousands of internal files, such as DDS textures, OBJ 3D models, character scripts, and PCK audio banks into a single compressed FDIR package. Alternatively, the .CAK extension is used as a compressed audio project archive for Cakewalk by BandLab, or as a legacy SEGA FILM Video container used in classic Sega Saturn games.
For WWE 2K modders, specialized community software like CakeTools is required to unpack and re-bake these archives. Audio professionals can open audio session variants using the native Cakewalk DAW. Sega video formats can still be played today using the open-source VLC media player or converted via FFmpeg.
The biggest disadvantage of the .CAK game archive is its completely opaque, locked-down nature. Built with proprietary Oodle Kraken compression to speed up console load times and prevent tampering, these files cannot be opened or extracted with standard tools like WinRAR or 7-Zip. Furthermore, their massive file sizes make them cumbersome to share or back up.
Because it is a complex container, you cannot convert a .CAK file directly into a simple format like JPG or MP4. You must first extract the archive's contents. Once unpacked, the internal DDS files can be safely converted to PNG for texture editing, or the PCK audio files converted to MP3. For the legacy SEGA video variant, converting to modern MP4 or MKV formats is highly recommended to prevent playback issues on modern devices.
