About BZW files
The .BZW file is a BZFlag World File used by the open-source multiplayer tank game BZFlag. It stores 3D map geometry, object placements, teleporters, and base locations for custom game servers. These files are built specifically for the BZFlag engine and rely on a specialized text-based structure.
The main disadvantage of the .BZW format is its extreme specificity. It is essentially useless outside of the BZFlag ecosystem. Users often want to convert these files to standard 3D formats like OBJ to render map previews in 3D modeling software like Blender, or to TXT to manually edit map coordinates.
However, standard online converters fail to process .BZW files because they lack the dedicated parsing logic required to separate BZFlag game mechanics from raw 3D geometry. Converting this file to standard 3D formats usually drops all game-specific metadata, meaning teleporters and bases will be lost.
Because this is a specialized game data format, it is difficult to convert directly. If our analysis detects the supported underlying text structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible. We can inspect the file, extract the plain text map data, and show the internal content so you can easily retrieve your map coordinates.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BZW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BZW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BZW converter.
