Extract text from Ultra Librarian component files (BXL)
To convert BXL component files to another format, you need Ultra Librarian or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "PCB Component Library" file type, you need software like Ultra Librarian or a similar tool.
The .BXL (Binary XML) file format is primarily used by Ultra Librarian and developed by Accelerated Designs to store electronic component data. These files contain schematic symbols, PCB footprints, and 3D models for electronic parts. A smaller percentage of .BXL files are used by Babtec software for quality management data exchange using an standard XML structure.
Engineers use .BXL files because component manufacturers provide a single file that can be translated into various Electronic Design Automation (EDA) formats. You can open and export them using the Ultra Librarian Free Reader.
However, the .BXL format poses significant challenges. It is a closed, proprietary format. Users often struggle to open these files directly in popular CAD tools without first installing the official reader. Standard online converters fail to process them because translating the geometric footprint data requires complex, proprietary algorithms specific to target software like Altium Designer or KiCad.
When converting, users typically target specific EDA library formats, or standard XML and TXT to extract the raw metadata. Because of its closed nature, .BXL is difficult to convert online. Often, only the original Ultra Librarian software can properly read or export the 3D footprint data.
