About BPV files

The .bpv extension primarily identifies a Network Traffic Capture file generated by Rohde & Schwarz test and measurement equipment. These binary files are created during mobile network drive testing (using tools like ROMES) to log radio frequency (RF) data, signaling messages, and packet streams. Unlike standard PCAP files, .bpv files use a proprietary structure to store high-fidelity physical layer measurements alongside the logical network traffic. This makes them impossible to open in standard analyzers like Wireshark without a paid license or specific export plugins.

A secondary but common use for .bpv is Binary Proprietary Video, a raw video stream format used by various legacy CCTV and DVR surveillance systems (and occasionally BallPark Business Valuation software, though less common today). These video files lack standard headers, meaning VLC Media Player will often fail to recognize them, displaying only a black screen or static. Users stuck with these files typically need to convert them to MP4 or AVI for legal evidence or archiving. For the Rohde & Schwarz format, the only viable workflow is exporting the data to PCAP for packet analysis or CSV for statistical review using the original vendor software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BPV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted C4S and SCE2 files.
