To convert other file formats to the "LED Sign Configuration" file type, you need software like PowerLED or a similar tool.
About BMM files
A .bmm file is an LED sign program file used to store the layout, pixel-mapped bitmaps, text patterns, and timing sequences for programmable LED matrix displays. These files are typically found on USB flash drives used to deploy new scrolling messages to storefront signs and industrial text panels.
These proprietary configuration files are natively generated and managed by software like PowerLED (specifically for TF-series controllers) and LED Matrix Studio.
Users often need to convert .bmm files to review the programmed sequences without possessing the physical LED board or the specific authoring software. The primary disadvantage of the format is its highly proprietary nature - it acts as a hardware-specific binary blob that directly addresses the memory blocks of an LED controller card. Standard image viewers, operating systems, and web browsers cannot natively open or preview these files, creating a frustrating bottleneck when you simply want to see the text or animation stored on a flash drive.
If you need to share the layout for approval, the best conversion targets are animated GIF, JPG, or BMP files. Exporting to these standard image formats provides a visual preview of the scrolling text, though you will permanently lose the memory mapping instructions and interactive controller settings during the conversion.
Because a .bmm file maps data specifically to LED controller hardware rather than storing standard pixel grids, it is notoriously difficult to open or convert online. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BMM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BMM file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use PowerLED or similar software from the "LED Matrix Configuration Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to BMM, try PowerLED or another comparable tool in the "LED Matrix Configuration Storage" category.
The BMM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BMM converter.
