About BM2 files

The .BM2 extension is most frequently associated with a Boardmaker Interactive Board, a digital page layout created using Boardmaker software (originally by Mayer-Johnson, now Tobii Dynavox). These files are the standard for creating AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) materials, visual schedules, and symbol-based educational grids using the proprietary Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) library.

For educators and parents, the .BM2 format presents significant friction: it is a proprietary binary container that cannot be opened by standard image viewers, web browsers, or Microsoft Word. To view or print these files, users typically require a licensed copy of Boardmaker v6 or the newer Boardmaker 7 subscription. Because of this lock-in, the most common conversion need is transforming .BM2 to PDF (for universal printing) or JPG (for digital sharing on tablets).

Secondary Use Case: In rare gaming contexts, a .BM2 file may be a Subspace Bitmap used by the legacy game Subspace/Continuum. In this specific instance, the file is actually a standard BMP image with a renamed extension.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BM2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BMP, TST, BPF, PDF, SSBOARD and BM3 files.
