A .BM file typically serves as a rare, truncated file extension for Windows Bitmap images or X Window System graphic files. In specific gaming and software contexts, it acts as a proprietary 3D model mesh for the MMORPG Last Chaos, or an archive file for the game Dawn of Magic by SkyFallen Entertainment.

Handling .BM files is notoriously frustrating because the extension creates system confusion. Modern operating systems and web browsers do not associate the .BM extension with standard image viewers like Microsoft Paint or Apple Preview.
