A .bk5 file is typically a backup archive created by financial software, most notably Cashflow Manager or Moneysoft Payroll Manager. In the context of Moneysoft, the extension represents a sequential backup - specifically the fifth most recent snapshot of your payroll data (where bk1 is the newest and .bk5 is the oldest). These files are not standard documents; they are proprietary database snapshots containing sensitive financial records, employee details, and tax histories.
Because .bk5 files are essentially "frozen" states of a database, you cannot simply double-click to open them in Microsoft Excel or view them in a web browser. They are locked to the software that created them. To access the data, you must restore the file within the original application. Once restored, you can then export the financial reports to CSV (for Excel), PDF (for archiving), or XML (for tax submission).
