About BFW files

A .bfw file is a data container typically associated with BibleWorks, a sophisticated software suite for biblical exegesis and textual analysis that was discontinued in 2018. These files often serve as specific MIDB databases or note repositories within the application's ecosystem.

A major drawback of .bfw files is the "orphaned software" problem: because BibleWorks is no longer sold or updated, users with old data files often find themselves locked out of their own research on modern operating systems. The proprietary nature of the format means standard text editors cannot parse the structure correctly, leaving you with a mix of readable text and garbled binary code.

A secondary, though less common, use of this extension is for glossary files in Babylon translation software. In this context, the file locks valuable linguistic pairs into a specific vendor platform.
