About BCN files
A .BCN file usually falls into one of two disparate categories, each presenting unique accessibility challenges. The most common variation (approx. 70%) is a Baseline Correction or calibration data file generated by Varian (now Agilent) Cary WinUV software. These files are critical for spectrophotometer accuracy but are typically stored in a proprietary binary format. This means researchers often find their data locked behind specific instrument software, making it impossible to audit calibration curves or baseline data in standard tools like Microsoft Excel or MATLAB without first exporting or converting the file to CSV or TXT.
The secondary type (approx. 10%) serves the outdoor community as a map or trip database for the BackCountry Navigator Android app. These are often structured as SQLite databases containing GPS tracks, waypoints, or tile references. The friction here is interoperability; a .BCN map file is useless on a desktop PC or inside Google Earth until it is converted into a standard interchange format like GPX or KML.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BCN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BCN file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Cary WinUV or similar software from the "Scientific Instrument Calibration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to BCN, try Cary WinUV or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Instrument Calibration" category.
The BCN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BCN converter.
