To open these files natively and view their original visual layouts, you must use the software that generated them. The major disadvantage of the .AXR format is its strict proprietary lock-in. You cannot open these files in web browsers or generic document readers. Sending an .AXR process model to a client means they must also possess an expensive, licensed copy of ADONIS to view it. Furthermore, Elcomsoft project files contain no readable document data at all - only the saved session states of dictionary or brute-force decryption attacks.
The best conversion targets for an ADONIS .AXR file are ZIP and XML. Under the hood, ADONIS packages its models using standard ZIP compression. By extracting the file, you gain access to the raw XML structure and associated image assets, though you will lose the proprietary software interface.
Because .AXR files belong to closed, highly specific ecosystems, standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read the schema and export the data to universal formats like BPMN or PDF.
