Convert ASW to another file type

To convert ASW files to another format, you need EDAX Analysis Station or other Data software.

Convert a file to ASW

To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Data Workspace" file type, you need software like EDAX Analysis Station or a similar tool.

About ASW files

The .ASW file extension primarily represents an Analysis Station Workspace created by EDAX microanalysis software. These files are used in materials science and electron microscopy to store energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) data, element maps, and customized workspace layouts. A secondary use is the ACDSee Slideshow Wizard File, a project file created by ACD Systems to save slideshow configurations.

The main disadvantage of the EDAX .ASW format is severe vendor lock-in. It is a highly proprietary scientific format that requires an expensive software license and specialized hardware to open natively. The files are completely unsupported by standard data tools or web browsers, making collaboration difficult. Meanwhile, ACDSee .ASW files are mere project files; they do not contain the actual images, just local file paths, meaning they break instantly if moved or shared without the source photos.

To share scientific results, users must convert EDAX .ASW data to universal targets like CSV, TXT, or the .EMSA standard for raw spectral data. Visual maps are best exported to JPG or PDF. For ACDSee slideshows, the only practical solution is rendering the project into an MP4 video from within the application. Standard online converters will fail to process .ASW files because the EDAX format is a closed, undocumented binary, and the ACDSee format lacks embedded media.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert externally. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the structured data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ASW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

FAQ

If you want to convert ASW file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use EDAX Analysis Station or similar software from the "Microanalysis Data Workspace" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to ASW, try EDAX Analysis Station or another comparable tool in the "Microanalysis Data Workspace" category.

The ASW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASW converter.
