The .ary extension represents two distinct, proprietary file types that often frustrate users due to their incompatibility with standard software.
First and foremost, it is a DVR video recording file generated by surveillance systems like Fecor DVR and older Arlo security cameras. These files contain raw H.264 or MPEG video streams wrapped in a non-standard container. Users typically encounter them when backing up security footage, only to find that Windows Media Player and VLC cannot open them. The main issue is the lack of a publicly available codec; users are often forced to use the specific Ary Viewer utility bundled with the hardware just to view the footage.
