Convert a file to ARN
To convert other file formats to the "System Configuration Log" file type, you need software like Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns or a similar tool.
About ARN files
The .ARN file is a proprietary binary snapshot created by Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns, a critical utility for monitoring startup programs, drivers, and scheduled tasks on Windows. Security professionals and system administrators rely on this format to capture the exact state of a system's autostart configuration for offline analysis or to compare system states over time.
However, the .ARN format creates a dependency on the specific Autoruns utility. Since it is often a Microsoft Compound binary file, you cannot simply open it in a text editor like Notepad or view it in a web browser. This "black box" nature makes it difficult to quickly grep for specific malware entries or import the data into a spreadsheet for sorting without the original software. Users frequently encounter version mismatch errors if the .ARN file was created with a newer version of Autoruns than the one currently installed.
To overcome these accessibility barriers, converting the file is the most pragmatic solution. For detailed analysis and sorting in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, converting to CSV is ideal. For archiving or quick text-based searching, converting to TXT is recommended. If you are integrating the data into automated security tools or SIEM systems, converting to XML provides the necessary structure. convert.guru allows you to bypass the need for the Sysinternals suite and instantly access the data inside your .ARN files.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your ARN file.
If you want to convert ARN file to URL, JS, TS, PY, JAVA, CPP, C, CS, PHP, RB, GO or RS, you can use Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns or similar software from the "Autostart Configuration Snapshot" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SH, PY, KT, PS1, SWIFT, LUA, PL, JAVA, SCALA, JS, VBS or TS files to ARN, try Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns or another comparable tool in the "Autostart Configuration Snapshot" category.
The ARN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ARN converter.
