About APPLET files

The .applet file format usually represents an Apple Mach-O universal binary executable or a legacy Java Applet. Apple utilizes the Mach-O format for executable programs on macOS. Alternatively, Java Runtime Environment historically used Java applets to run small, interactive programs directly inside web browsers. A small percentage of these files also function as plain-text Java Applet Policy Files within the Eclipse IDE.

The major disadvantage of the .applet format is its rigid, proprietary, and often obsolete nature. Legacy Java applets require insecure, outdated plugins that modern web browsers actively block. Meanwhile, Apple Mach-O binaries are platform-locked to macOS and cannot run natively on Windows or Linux. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they are compiled machine code or complex bytecode packages, not simple media or document files.

Because this file is a compiled binary, direct conversion to other executable formats like EXE is technically impossible. The most practical conversion targets are archive formats like ZIP or TAR to extract embedded assets (such as images and icons), or plain text TXT to read human-readable string data. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert; often, only the original software or operating system can properly read or execute the data. Our engine can safely inspect the file, bypass execution risks, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your APPLET file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
