About APL files

The .APL file extension serves multiple distinct functions depending on the parent software. Its most common use is as a report template for Accurate Online ERP software, or as a plugin library for ACDSee Photo Studio. You can open template .APL files using standard archive tools because they rely on the ZIP format structure. Plugin variants require ACDSee to function properly as they contain executable Windows code. It is also used as a JetDB photo management database file in ACDSee Photo Manager, and an ArcPad layer file by ESRI. The primary disadvantage of the .APL format is its severe fragmentation. Because it represents entirely different data types (a ZIP archive, an executable plugin, or a JetDB database), standard converters frequently fail. If it is an executable plugin, you cannot view it on mobile devices or macOS without emulation. Proprietary database files are locked to the specific ACDSee version that generated them. Since these are mostly structural or executable files, direct conversion is rarely practical. However, for template files, you can extract the contents to ZIP or XML to edit the raw data. Database variants might be exportable to CSV if the internal table structure is intact. Many .APL formats are closed, proprietary systems. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a standard ZIP archive or JetDB tables - viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.

Convert.Guru analyzes your APL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, ENC, SFR, VIEWFILE, ROX and BPL files.

The APL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our APL converter.
