About APB files

The .apb file extension is highly fragmented and used by completely unrelated software programs. Most commonly, it acts as an HMI (Human Machine Interface) application archive backup created by Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View. However, it is also frequently used for business card or label designs in software like Avery DesignPro or Hama Design & Print, or as retail planograms in Apollo Space Management software.

The primary disadvantage of the .apb format is this extreme fragmentation. Because the same extension is used for 3D retail modeling, industrial backups, and simple address labels, Windows and Mac operating systems usually fail to guess the correct software. Furthermore, these formats are entirely closed and proprietary. For example, Avery DesignPro is outdated software, making modern label recovery difficult without a legacy installation.

To bypass these software limits, you often need to convert the file. For Avery label designs, converting to PDF or JPG is the best way to print the design on modern computers, though editability will be lost. For FactoryTalk backups, the data must often be extracted or restored using the original industrial software.

Because .apb files are difficult to open, standard online converters fail to process them correctly. They cannot guess which version of the file you have. Since FactoryTalk .apb files use an internal 7Z structure, our analysis detects this underlying embedded format, allowing you to view its contents or extract it like a standard archive.

Convert.Guru analyzes your APB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The APB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our APB converter.
