About AOS files

The .AOS file extension primarily represents a proprietary archive. It is most commonly used as a Game Asset Archive in video games (such as those built with the Unity engine or the game Ace of Spades), or as a Firmware Update File for hardware like Archos media devices and satellite receivers.

Depending on the specific use case, these files are accessed internally by game engines or flashed directly onto hardware memory chips. Game modders often try to open .AOS files to access the 3D models, textures, or audio data hidden inside. However, these files are strictly compiled, closed binary packages. They lack native support in standard operating systems and cannot be easily browsed like standard ZIP folders.

Extracting data from an .AOS file usually targets raw multimedia formats. Users typically want to convert internal assets into WAV or MP3 for audio tracks, and PNG or OBJ for visual models. Unfortunately, because the format is heavily customized by developers (often using middleware like Audiokinetic Wwise), standard extraction tools fail to read the proprietary folder structures.

Because .AOS is an undocumented, closed format, generic online converters cannot parse it. Only specialized game unpackers or the original hardware flashing tools can properly read the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format like UnityFS or RIFF, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AOS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AOSC, PDF, AJZ, GCD and RUF files.

The AOS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AOS converter.
