About AOF files

The .AOF extension serves two distinct but common purposes in the tech world, creating significant confusion for users.

Most frequently, it is an Artlantis Object File created by Artlantis, a high-end 3D rendering application developed by Abvent. These files function as 3D library assets - storing furniture, vegetation, or people - to drag-and-drop into architectural scenes. A major limitation here is proprietary lock-in: .AOF files are compiled specifically for the Artlantis engine. They cannot be opened directly in standard modeling tools like SketchUp or AutoCAD, requiring users to have the paid Artlantis software installed just to view or export the geometry. To make these 3D assets usable elsewhere, converting them to OBJ (universal 3D), DWG, or FBX is essential.

Alternatively, in backend development, an .AOF is a Redis Append Only File. Redis uses this format to log every write operation received by the server for data persistence. While these are technically text-based, they use the raw Redis serialization protocol, making them difficult to read for humans and potentially massive in size (often growing to gigabytes). Developers often need to convert or parse these logs into JSON, CSV, or plain TXT to debug database transactions or analyze traffic patterns without deploying a full Redis instance.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AOF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RDB, SCORE, IMS and PTM files.

The AOF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AOF converter.
