Extract text from AnyRail layouts (ANY)
To convert ANY Layouts to another format, you need AnyRail or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "Track Planning Geometry" file type, you need software like AnyRail or a similar tool.
The .ANY file extension is primarily used for AnyRail Layout Plan files. Created by DRail Modelspoor Software, it stores 2D track geometry, part numbers from manufacturer track libraries (such as Peco, Kato, or Märklin), design layers, and scenery objects for model railway planning.
This format is strictly closed and proprietary. You cannot open or view a .ANY file natively on macOS, Linux, or mobile devices, as it requires a dedicated Windows PC running the AnyRail software. This is a severe disadvantage when you need to share your layout with club members, post it on modeling forums, or print it at a local copy shop.
To share these plans, users typically convert them into standard visual formats like PDF, JPG, or PNG. Extracting the track pieces and bill of materials (BOM) to CSV or XLSX is also frequently required for purchasing. Because this file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert outside of its native ecosystem, standard online converters completely fail to process it.
