About GLY files
A .GLY file typically represents one of two distinct formats, both of which present significant compatibility hurdles for standard users.
Most commonly (approx. 45%), it is a Bitmap Font file used by Enigma2-based Linux satellite receivers (like Dreambox or Vu+). These files store the graphical representations of characters used in the device's on-screen interface (skins). The frustration here is high: the format is proprietary to the embedded Linux environment, meaning Windows or macOS cannot preview these fonts natively. Users often stumble upon them when customizing receiver skins and find they are essentially locked binary data without specialized community tools.
Alternatively (approx. 24%), a .GLY file is a document created by JSesh, an open-source hieroglyphic word processor used by Egyptologists. While powerful for academic work, the format is useless for sharing. Sending a .GLY file to a publisher or colleague requires them to install JSesh just to view your text.
If you want to convert GLY file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use JSesh or similar software from the "Enigma2 Bitmap Font" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to GLY, try JSesh or another comparable tool in the "Enigma2 Bitmap Font" category.
The GLY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GLY converter.
