ASUS Data Security Manager uses the .AEE file format to lock and encrypt sensitive files on Windows PCs, primarily ASUS laptops. This proprietary file acts as a secure vault, wrapping your original files - like documents or images - in a layer of encryption so that unauthorized users cannot read them. The primary software to access these files is the ASUS Data Security Manager, which prompts you for a password to unlock the contents.
Users typically need to convert .AEE files when migrating to a non-ASUS computer or after reinstalling their operating system. The main disadvantage of this format is its closed, proprietary encryption. If you lose the original software or your password, you lose your data. It requires specific legacy utilities to open and is not supported by web browsers, macOS, or modern non-ASUS Windows environments.
