About ACFM files

The .ACFM file stands for Adobe Composite Font Metrics. It is a specialized, plain-text format used to describe the structure and global spatial metrics (such as bounding boxes and kerning data) for Original Composite Font (OCF) programs. These are typically complex Asian-language fonts requiring thousands of characters. These files are utilized internally by legacy typesetting environments like Adobe Type Manager, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe InDesign. Users often attempt to use .ACFM files as installable fonts, which immediately causes frustration. The critical disadvantage of this format is that it contains no actual graphical glyphs - only numerical spacing data. It is completely non-functional without its accompanying PFB (Printer Font Binary) and AFM files. Furthermore, this is a highly deprecated, proprietary Adobe architecture that has been largely replaced by modern OTF (OpenType) formats. Standard online converters fail when processing this format because they mistakenly treat it as a document or a standard font file, rather than a raw metrics reference. Since it is ASCII-encoded text, the best conversion targets are TXT, JSON, or XML to extract the data for parsing by developers or type designers. This file format is notoriously difficult to process because only specialized Adobe software or high-end typography tools know how to interpret the metrics.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ACFM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
