About ACD-ZIP files

The .ACD-ZIP file format is a Sony ACID Project With Embedded Media File. Originally developed by Sonic Foundry and Sony, and now managed by MAGIX, this format bundles a multitrack audio project timeline (normally an ACD file) and all the physical audio media files into a single archive.

The primary software used to open, edit, and mix these files is ACID Pro or ACID Music Studio. By packing everything into one file, producers can easily transfer whole projects between different studios without missing audio errors.

The main disadvantage of an .ACD-ZIP file is that it is a proprietary, closed project file. It is not an audio file. You cannot play it in standard web browsers or media players like VLC. Furthermore, because it bundles uncompressed audio samples and stems, these files frequently exceed several gigabytes, making them difficult to share. It also requires an expensive paid software license to properly open, mix, and render the final track.

The best conversion targets for this file are extraction formats. You can often extract the raw WAV or MP3 loops stored inside by simply treating it as a standard ZIP archive. However, to get a fully mixed final song, you must render the project natively.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because online tools lack the proprietary audio engine required to render the timeline, effects, and panning. Often only the original software can properly read or export the fully mixed data. Since our analysis detects a supported underlying ZIP embedded format, viewing the structure or extracting the embedded media files may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ACD-ZIP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
