Convert ACID to another file type
To convert ACID files to another format, you need ACiD (A Covert Identity) or other Encoded software.
Convert a file to ACID
To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted Data Archive" file type, you need software like ACiD (A Covert Identity) or a similar tool.
About ACID files
The .acid file format is a proprietary encrypted container built specifically to secure confidential data. Created by Data on Acid for their legacy Windows application ACiD (A Covert Identity), these files were primarily used to lock down financial, federal, and personal documents. The application utilized an encryption algorithm keyed by a quantum random number generator to ensure maximum security for files stored locally or sent via email.
The most significant disadvantage of the .acid format today is that it is completely obsolete. The original ACiD software is discontinued and no longer available for download. Because the format is both proprietary and cryptographically locked, opening the file requires not only the exact legacy software but also the original encryption key or password. Without both, the data remains permanently inaccessible.
Standard online converters will always fail to process an .acid file because they cannot read scrambled data. You cannot convert an encrypted .acid file directly into a PDF, DOCX, or ZIP file. The original data must be decrypted first. If our analysis detects any unencrypted header information or if the file wrapper is damaged, we can help you understand exactly what you are dealing with before you attempt legacy data recovery.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ACID file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ACID file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use ACiD (A Covert Identity) or similar software from the "Secure File Encryption" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to ACID, try ACiD (A Covert Identity) or another comparable tool in the "Secure File Encryption" category.
The ACID Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ACID converter.
