Convert ABI to another file type
To convert ABI chromatograms to another format, you need Sequence Scanner or other Data software.
Convert a file to ABI
To convert other file formats to the "Biological Data / Blockchain Files" file type, you need software like Sequence Scanner or a similar tool.
About ABI files
The .ABI file extension serves two radically different primary purposes. Most commonly, it is a DNA sequencing chromatogram file generated by genetic analyzers from Applied Biosystems. It contains raw fluorescence trace data used in biological research. Alternatively, in the blockchain world, it acts as an Application Binary Interface used by the EOSIO blockchain platform to define smart contract structures. Occasionally, it might be an obsolete AOL Address Book Index or an AbiWord Plug-in.
Opening biological .ABI files requires specialized bioinformatics software like Sequence Scanner or open-source alternatives like FinchTV. EOSIO .ABI files, on the other hand, are developer files typically read with tools like eosio.cdt or standard code editors.
The primary disadvantage of an .ABI chromatogram file is that it is a closed, proprietary format. It cannot be opened by standard text editors, spreadsheets, or image viewers, making raw data sharing difficult for non-biologists. Blockchain .ABI files are strictly formatted JSON, but require specific developer environments to compile or interact with effectively. Legacy AOL address books are completely obsolete and effectively unsupported on modern operating systems.
To make DNA data accessible, scientists usually convert .ABI files to FASTA, SEQ, or PDF formats. However, while converting to FASTA extracts the pure A-C-T-G sequence data, you will permanently lose the visual trace information and quality scores. Smart contract .ABI files are already JSON-based and can simply be renamed and read as TXT or JSON.
Because biological .ABI files encode raw machine data in a proprietary structure, standard online converters completely fail to process them. Often, only the original sequencing software can accurately parse and export the trace data. Still, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. Our tool inspects the file, and if it detects standard underlying text (like EOSIO smart contracts) or extractable data structures, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ABI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ABI file to FASTA, JSON, DLL, SO, DYLIB, BUNDLE, PLUGIN, XPI, CRX, SAFARIEXTZ, APPEX or KEXT, you can use Sequence Scanner or similar software from the "DNA Sequencing & Smart Contracts" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LV2, DYLIB, VST, AAX, DRV, TDE, LADSPA, BUNDLE, AU, DLL, RTAS or SO files to ABI, try Sequence Scanner or another comparable tool in the "DNA Sequencing & Smart Contracts" category.
The ABI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ABI converter.
